I saw an interesting movie this weekend that implied when the world ended the chosen few were going to be taken up in spaceship to a "new earth" to start over and the earth was destroyed in a ball of fire. The movie did have a lot of good faith baised information in it, but if you were young in your faith or searching it could eaisly lead you astray. Any Ideas on where the Spaceship and new earth could possibly come from?

Leah, I think people have always looked to the stars and space for spiritual inspiration. Romans named constellations after mythological creatures or events. The sun, moon and stars have been worshipped for eons. It is only with the advent of the space program that we have people thinking of aliens with superior intellects trying to communicate with poor, dumb earthlings. If you reject God and the Bible, it doesn't take long to imagine these beings as your "salvation" from a dying planet.
We see that in Scientology and the tragic suicide of many of Marshall Applewhite's "Heaven's Gates" cult. Remember them, waiting for the great "mother ship" that was trailing the Hale-Bopp comet?

There is also an element of this in Nation of Islam - they are waiting for a spaceship as well. Although, that is not likely the subject of the movie. NoI doesn't leave a very positive impression of very many people they touch.

I also heard some Christians warning about this movie because it doesn't promote 'Christian values', like Hollywood ever tries to do that to begin with. But it would send confusing signals to believers who might be asking questions and not getting too many answers. All the more reason for us to stay engaged with others.
